Binance Helps To Trace $4.2 Million in Crypto Donations to Russia
Oct 11,2022
8505Binans' investigation team, together with other governments, tracked the data encryption donation of nearly 4.2 million dollars to the Russian primary militia in the Russian region during the Russia Ukraine war.
Binance's research team, cryptocurrency tracking enterprise, helps track the contributions to the Russian war. The Russian war often starts from the posts published in Telegram, an information application software, to specify crowdsourcing platform assets.
Zhao Changpeng, CEO of Binance, shared:
Chailanalysis, the blockchain technology analysis platform, found the message posts from groups including the paramilitary organization Rusich and the pro Russian media websites Rybar and Southfront. All these teams released detailed addresses of cryptocurrency contributions to Telegram.
The analysis includes all kinds of discoveries from cryptocurrency tracking enterprises, such as ChainAnalysis, Elliptic and TRM Labs, including investigators from Binance. In addition, Binance researchers found that since February 2022, the cryptocurrency with a value of 4.2 million dollars has been converted to the Russian military organization.
The total capital is likely to be much larger than the data of Binance or Chainanalysis. It is inferred that some of the organizations mentioned are different from those listed in the Chainanasis statement.
Serhii Kropyva, former deputy police chief of the National Security Agency of Ukraine, responded to this and added:
According to the close cooperation between ChainAnalysis, Binance and other enterprises, we can see that all wallets have participated in this criminal act, and this kind of money has flowed millions of dollars. Unfortunately, we can see that the transfer has been continuing.
Binance mentioned that MOO Veche, a pro Russian "historical and cultural heritage" organization, organized a love donation activity for equipment purchased by such organizations. ChainAnalysis mentioned that.
In addition, although Binance, TRM Labs and Elliptic all mentioned MOO Veche as an important donor, Elliptic traced 1.7 million dollars of cryptocurrency to the working group, far more than other researchers.
The chain analysis researcher Andrew Fierman summarized this conjecture and pointed out that it was not like Russia buying new tanks with donations. This asset is then used to purchase thermal camera glasses and UAVs.
